Bodybuilding is not just about staying fit. It is also about toning your muscles and strengthening them. According to your preference, you can work out at home or hit a gym. Though different people have different reasons to take up bodybuilding, they need to follow a regular routine and remember some basic rules while working out. Here are a few rules that you can follow to start a safe bodybuilding workout session:

You should have a good idea about your own body. Generally, humans are divided into three body types- ectomorph, endomorph, and mesomorph. Having some idea about the purpose of each and every muscle in your body would also help. In case you are not sure about what body type you have, you can seek professional help.

If you are a beginner, start slowly. Don’t push yourself too much, as doing so could cause injuries.

In order to build muscle, you will have to take good care of your diet. A nutritious diet will help you get burn adequate calories while also boosting your metabolism. It is suggested that eating every three hours is a good idea, as this will rev up your metabolic rate.

Decide what muscle groups you want to develop and focus on them. Work one muscle at a time and spread your workout session throughout the week.

Indulge in strength building exercises, but do not hurt yourself. You can always seek the guidance of a trainer if you are not sure about what to do, or how to proceed.

While charting a bodybuilding workout routine, do not forget to include rest days. It is a good idea to have every alternate day as a rest day. Rest is important for your body, and more specifically, for your muscles. Taking a break will help your muscles recover from your intensive workouts.

Never overdo anything. Overworking your body will only hurt you and make you prone to injury, so know your limits. You should also find out if you have any specific illness that prevents you from doing certain exercises. If necessary, do not hesitate to consult a doctor.

Remember- Rome was not built in a day. Your muscles will take time to develop. Exercise hard, eat a balanced diet replete with proteins and carbohydrates, and take rest. You will see the difference over time.

Follow the above guidelines to formulate a great workout session.

While sweating it out in a gym or at your home, you should make sure your bodybuilding sessions are injury-free. Injuries can create set backs in your regular routine, and based on their seriousness, they may also force you to quit your dream of bodybuilding. Since quitting is definitely not something you would like to do, so, give utmost importance to your safety. Even if you cannot make your sessions one hundred percent injury-free, taking precautions will definitely bring down the number of injuries, and may also help you avoid the serious ones.

Here are some tips to prevent injury while bodybuilding:

Before doing any exercise, make sure you have warmed up adequately. These warm ups will improve your blood circulation and make your muscles ready for the rigorous session. Warming up also avoids the onset of muscle cramps. You can include stretching and free hand exercises in your warm up routine, as they are a good way to protect your muscles from sprains.

It is also important that you do the exercises that suit your body. After all, you cannot get a rock solid body in a heartbeat. That is why it is sometimes essential to have the guidance of a professional trainer who can warn you when you are doing something wrong.

You can also invest your money to buy some protective gloves. These will make sure the weights do not slip from your hands.

You should also know when to stop. Rest days are a must during routine. Make sure you do not push yourself too far. Stop when you feel any kind of stress, as a stressed body is more prone to injuries.

During your exercise regimen, make sure you are far from any distractions. Distractions can make you lose focus and you may have an accident. In fact, many bodybuilders say that distraction is the prime culprit behind injuries.

Make sure that your postures are right, especially when you are doing squats. During this exercise, the position of your knees should be above your toes. Do your exercises in front of a mirror so that you can see what exactly you are doing. Never try to lift or pull more weights than you can really manage. Start slow, and then add the weights once your body gets used to a particular set.

Keep these suggestions in mind to enjoy workout sessions that are free from injuries.

A total bodybuilding program consists of three main components- a well devised workout program, a proper diet and nutrition plan, and health supplements. Without the first two, the third will not help in building your body the way you want to. There is a prevailing misconception among people that health supplements can perform miracles and give them the body they covet without any exercise or a compromise on binge eating. This is totally wrong. It should be kept in mind that a supplement will work only if you follow a regular workout schedule diligently and take care of your diet.

Taking supplements should be done under the supervision of a professional trainer, as he/she will be able to guide you properly. There are a wide number of bodybuilding supplements available in the market. However, consuming any one of them without proper guidance will not only deter you from achieving the goals you are aiming for, but even cause health hazards if you are not careful enough.

There are generally two main types of bodybuilding supplements: regular and non-regular. While protein, creatine, and glutamine are some of the most widely used regular supplements, non-regular supplements include NO2, ribose, tribulus etc. Here is a list of the commonly used health supplements that aid in bodybuilding:

Protein: This is the most widely used bodybuilding supplement. It is generally taken in powdered form right before or after exercise, or as a replacement for any meal. It is consumed for proper growth and repair of muscle tissues. Common protein supplements include whey protein, egg white protein, casein protein, and the like.

Essential Fatty Acids: This is another must-have bodybuilding supplement that many bodybuilders rely on. Generally, a strict diet chart can make bodybuilders lose out on the fat content, as they often have to keep to extremely low fat diets. However, certain essential fats are necessary for regular body functions, and it is then that essential fatty acid supplements come into the picture.

Meal replacement products: Bodybuilders have to take several small meals instead of the regular three meals as this helps in burning their fat fast and gives them more energy. Meal Replacement Products (MRP) come in handy during these short meal times. MRPs can come in either powdered form or in a bar form. Both can be taken in place of a whole-food meal. Many such products include whey protein, egg albumin, calcium caseinate, and other nutrients.

There are a wide number of various health supplements available in the market. Remember to use them only after consulting your bodybuilding instructor; do not buy them over the counter.

Eating at regular intervals is important during bodybuilding- but just any food will not do. A bodybuilder needs a nutritious and balanced diet, as unhealthy junk food will only harm keep him/her from achieving his/her fitness objective. That is why you should attach more importance on the quality of the food and its nutritional value, rather than on its taste. Let us take a look at what roles these healthy foods play in bodybuilding.

To begin with, you need to build up muscle mass with the help of your bodybuilding sessions. It is this muscle mass that will increase in volume, and become toned once you start exercising. Eating nutritious food will help you build your muscles and get stronger.

To build muscle, you need to burn sufficient calories. For this, you should have enough calories in your body to burn, otherwise, you get fatigued. Having a nutritious and healthy diet that is filled with proteins, fats, and fiber will give you enough calories. In fact, you should have so many calories that some of it remains in your body even after a rigorous workout.

Some people always feel shocked at the mention of fat- but accumulating fat is also necessary. Once your start with your regular exercise sessions, you will find that you are also burning a lot of body fat. You can have olive oil, avocados, and cold water fish to give your body the essential fatty acids it needs. These are sources of what we call good or unsaturated fats.

Bodybuilders should also drink lots of water to keep themselves hydrated. Water is one of the most important substances present in the human body, and is also a good source of nutrients.

Not eating enough will mean that you will remain hungry. This may lead you to binge eating, which is not at all a healthy practice. Remember- in order to gain muscle and strength, you must have sufficient calories in your body.

It is true that cakes and cookies do have fats, but they are sources of what we know as saturated fats, which is bad for your health. As such, you should stay away from them.

Since you will need energy to keep up your exercise regimen, you should also have adequate amount of carbohydrates, which are a great source of energy. Bread, pasta, and cereals are good sources of carbohydrates.

In the quest to take to bodybuilding and build muscle mass significantly, the influence of both the gym and the trainer is indispensable. However, you have to be very choosy in these aspects and pick up the one most suitable for your body type. A good instructor with the accompaniment of the right gym instruments will keep you from injuring yourself and at the same time, help you tone and shape your body the way you would like it to be. As such, consider a few things before you zero in on both a gym and an instructor.

Firstly, choosing a gym should be done after considering a number of crucial factors. If your goal is bodybuilding, you should look for a gym with appropriate equipment and competitive facilities. Choose a gym that is easily accessible from your home or office. This will help you maintain your schedule properly.

Next, you should enquire about the equipment, i.e., how regularly they are replaced or checked, and how updated they are. Also ask questions about the payment structure and the options related to that for availing membership. Check out the size of the work out area, and see whether there are additional facilities like a sauna and shower cubicles. Most importantly, ask questions about the trainers and their qualifications.

A trainer should be there to assess what type of exercise you need, and whether you have the ability to meet the requirements. He/she should also plan personalized workout schedules for you, so that you can achieve your goal. An instructor also ensures that you are doing the exercises in the right way and makes sure you mend your mistakes, if any. Therefore, when you are looking for a personal trainer or enquiring about the trainers in a gym, make sure most, if not all, are adequately experienced in this regard. You can also make a list of the prospective trainers by visiting different gyms or checking out some references collected from friends and family. Have a word with them about your goals, question them regarding their credentials and work experience, and see whether they are willing to invest enough time and attention in you. If not, simply tick off this trainer from your list of probables.

Do your homework well before you select a gym and a trainer for your bodybuilding routine.

Bodybuilding is not only restricted to working out intensely and planning an exercise regimen. You also need to take care of the food you eat, and monitor your food intake and also the timing of your meals. After all, it is through healthy food that you will eventually build up a good metabolic rate. In order to make that happen, you have to create a plan for your meals.

Here are some tips to get you started with dietary planning:

To build your body, you will have to eat a lot, and at regular intervals. Make a chart of what you will need to eat, and cook accordingly. Well cooked and prepared food will also prevent you from eating out and giving in to temptation.

Plan your breakfast, lunch and dinner wisely and eat at a gap of every three hours. Apart from these three meals, indulge in some healthy snacks at regular intervals to rev up your metabolism.

It is also suggested that you divide your meals into various portions. Store these portions in the refrigerator, for these are the portions that you will eat often. The main food items that should be included in these portions are meat, cheese, peanut butter, potato, pasta, fish, and bagels. Your intake of most of these items should be anywhere between 1-8 oz., while you can have about a cup of pasta and two tablespoons of peanut butter.

You may include yogurt, eggs, and whole wheat toast in your diet. Your diet should contain balanced portions of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. The prescribed proportion of these three important ingredients is 1:2:2 respectively. You should also eat a lot of fiber. Fiber enriched foods work as antioxidants. Also, don’t be paranoid about consuming fats, as they are essential for your body. Moreover, your bodybuilding sessions will make you burn that fat anyway.

While you plan your food chart, make sure that you focus on health benefits rather than taste. Honey nougat ice cream may taste great, but it does not have the necessary nutrients. Use your creativity to make any ‘boring food’ interesting.

Drink lots of water. Never allow your body to get dehydrated.

Make sure you take home cooked food with you when you go to work. Outside/ canteen food is not very healthy, and that is the last thing you should go for if you want to stick to your bodybuilding regimen.

Plan your meals in such a way that if your diet incorporates too many calories in one day, you can opt for just the opposite the following day.

Use these suggestions to plan your meal schedule for an effective bodybuilding regime.

Bodybuilding has come a long way since Eugen Sandow popularized it as a viable exercise form, and it is now one of the most popular workout routines today. There are an untold number of gyms and bodybuilding centers that offer professional training programs for bodybuilding enthusiasts. Irrespective of whether you would like to participate in a bodybuilding competition or would just like to lose some fat and build muscle, the art of bodybuilding should be outlined by a strict regime consisting of a workout, diet and supplement plan.

It goes without saying that the main part of any bodybuilding workout plan would be to follow a regular and stringent regime. There are some basic patterns in the routine that you should maintain in order to avoid injuring your body and progress towards your goal steadily. You have to devote at least 18 hours per week for working out, and you can devote 2 hours per day to bodybuilding. It is advisable to break this two hour routine again into two one hour sessions. In each session, you can devote the first half to cardio, and the second one to weightlifting exercises.

In the week long schedule lasting from Monday to Saturday, you have to keep a target of working upon one muscle group. This should ideally be repeated only after three days, and not before. Your routine for the next month should be changed to focus on another muscle group. For example, you can go for machine weights in the first month, and free weights in the next month, and follow the opposite order in the coming months. The point is to not let your body get habituated to a particular schedule for long, otherwise, it will stop gaining muscle mass.

Merely sweating it up in the gym will not help much in your endeavor. You need to follow a strict dietary plan as well. The main aim of your diet chart should be to cut down on fat and give the body enough energy to build up muscle. Follow a low carbohydrate diet that has lesser or no fat. Consume whole grain food items and try to have small meals every three hours. This practice will help in burning fat, and will give your body more energy.

A bodybuilding diet should have high protein items along with lots of fresh vegetables and fruits. Supplements are another important part of the whole program; however, you must consume these items following proper directions from your trainer/dietician, and make sure you take them only under professional supervision. You can also opt for multivitamin tablets if your trainer or dietician suggests the same to supplement your exercise routine.

If you have always envied Jean Claude van Damme and Sly Stallone for having bodies that could put a Spartan warrior to shame and want to develop your physique, it’s about time you started a bodybuilding routine. However, you shouldn’t jump into the act just because you’ve come across a professional bodybuilder’s routine in some magazine. Rather, you should have a bodybuilding program that you can abide by with relative ease.

A good beginning routine focuses on a good diet. If your body has too much fat, all your bodybuilding efforts will go down the drain; as such, you need to start focusing on toning your muscles. Also maintain a high protein diet that includes fresh vegetables, fruits, lean meats, and whole grains. Keep yourself adequately hydrated by drinking plenty of water, and stay away from alcohol and sugary and salty foods.

When you are just starting out on your bodybuilding regime, it pays to hire a qualified personal trainer to help you along the way. It is always better to learn the right exercises that build muscle and get handy tips regarding your diet from an experienced trainer, so that you benefit adequately from your program and are also less prone to injury.

Unlike many people who focus solely on muscle building, you should aim to exercise your whole body and take proper rest in between your exercise schedules. Make sure you have at least eight hours of sleep each night, and make it a point to manage stress positively. Balancing exercise with rest is the key to effective bodybuilding and overall wellness.

Last but not least, maintain or chart out a training log to keep track of your exercise schedule. Unless you can review how many sets and repetitions of each exercise you have done, and how much weight you have lifted in the course of a few weeks or a month, you won’t be able to decide upon the right time to go to the next level and increase your weights (resistance).

To summarize, outline a workout plan based on the aforementioned tips to get started with your bodybuilding routine.

The first thing you will have to concentrate on is your diet. It goes without saying that it pays to shun junk foods. You should have a diet that includes food rich in proteins, carbohydrates, fiber, and fat. Make sure you do not avoid any major food group in your quest to remain fit, as staying hungry will not do you any good.

You can either hit the gym or train at home- the choice is yours. If you have decided to train at home, you can buy some good equipment and even hire a professional instructor. Self motivation and dedication is important to achieve your goals.

Once you have set your goals, create or chart out an exercise routine. Focus on one body part or one muscle a day. You will also need to include a rest day in your routine. The workout sessions chosen for any female bodybuilder should keep her physical build in mind. Remember– exercises that suit a male bodybuilder may not be good or effective for a female. So it’s advisable that you take the help of a trained professional to select the exercises that suit your body type before you start your workouts.

Many women are worried that by doing bodybuilding, they may develop a ‘masculine’ physique in the long run. However, there is no need to worry. Even if you do develop muscles, they probably will be formed at the expense of your curves. In fact, it is the muscles that will help you maintain your hourglass figure.

During your bodybuilding routine, you should not stay away from fatty foods altogether. The fat that you accumulate in your body will eventually get burned during your exercise hours. The muscles of your body will also help you to burn fat.

Your workout should be a combination of cardiovascular, as well as weight training exercises. Both are important for achieving an overall healthy and fit body. You can also go for weight training to strengthen your muscles and bones.

So hit the gym or take up weight training without the fear of losing your attractive curves, as bodybuilding will keep you fit and enable you to enjoy a healthy life.

Though many believe the best place to do bodybuilding workouts is in a gym, this does not mean you cannot achieve success within the confines of your own home. However, you will have to get some training tools and prepare an exercise schedule to make the most of your home sessions.

The exercise equipments that you should buy include, but are not restricted to an exercise bench, about 200 pounds of free weights, one barbell weighing about 40 pounds, and one pull up bar. Make sure that the pull up bar is a nonadjustable one. Many of these equipments are available online. People often sell them on the internet when they don’t need them anymore. However, it is a good idea to buy your bodybuilding tools from a reputed dealer to ensure they are of good quality.

Once you have decided to work out at home, you should not compromise on your dedication. Unfaltering determination is the only thing that will help you to reach your goal. Your dedication and seriousness will also help you to stick to your workout schedule.

Mirrors can be a great tool when it comes to bodybuilding. You will be able to see your postures while you exercise, and you can correct yourself if you are doing anything wrong. This may even save you from some possible injuries.

You can also invest your money on hiring an experienced trainer. Though you may be working out at home, it does not mean you cannot seek professional help. In fact, a professional is the right person who can guide you by offering you a routine that is most effective for your needs.

Make a chart that puts down your workout plans and goals, and divide your objectives into daily attainable parts. For example, you may prefer to concentrate on your abs, chest, back, and shoulders one day, while you may like to go for exercises that strengthen your biceps, triceps, and legs the following day. Make sure that you include rest days in your workout routine, as rest is a must to make the most of your bodybuilding sessions.

Inform everyone at home about your regimen, so that no one disturbs you during these few hours. Cluing your family or friends in may also help you get some additional motivation in the form of a likely work out partner.

Make sure your exercise program mixes aerobic or cardiovascular training and strength training. You will also need to warm up before you start training with weights.

In brief, bodybuilding at home is not tough. All you need is a bit more focus and dedication to succeed and achieve your fitness goals.
